Throughout its decade-long early access period, the survival crafting zombie horde game 7 Days to Die has undergone a wide range of significant game changes. With this early access period coming to an end with the massive 1.0 release for 7 Days to Die fast approaching, even more changes are in store for the game, including at least a couple more years of additional post-lunch content planned.
One of the biggest changes in the 1.0 update for 7 Days to Die is the clothing and armor overhaul. In the latest version of the game, clothing and the old armor sets have been removed and replaced by 16 new armor sets. Each new piece of armor within these 16 sets provides a range of individual stat boosts while worn, and a full set of matching armor will provide an additional set bonus. While some of these individual and armor set bonuses overlap, each armor set generally provides its own advantages that players should consider when choosing which set to invest in.
S-Tier Armor in 7 Days to Die

These four armor sets will provide players with some of the best buffs for survivability, increased xp, and better loot, making them great options for players to invest in as their main armor set for exploring POIs and completing quests for the traders in 7 Days to Die. Between the individual bonuses and set bonuses provided by these four types of armor, these can drastically affect the game’s difficulty regardless of when players acquire any of these armor sets throughout their playthrough.
Players can mix and match different armor sets to benefit from a variety of buffs catered to their preferred playstyle, although this means missing out on benefiting from an armor’s exclusive set bonus.
A-Tier Armor in 7 Days to Die

These A-Tier armor sets provide some incredibly useful passive effects for players who specialize in a specific skill build in 7 Days to Die. However, the lack of buffs related to combat and survivability on these armor sets makes them highly situational. Consequently, players should consider investing in these armor sets and wearing them while performing dedicated tasks, but otherwise having a primary armor set to switch back that provides buffs that are less situational.
B-Tier Armor in 7 Days to Die

- Commando
- Enforcer
For players who would prefer to combine different pieces of each of the new armor sets, these B-tier armor sets can be some great build crafting tools, considering that their full set bonuses are arguably underwhelming. This is because some of the buffs from these armor sets can be easily obtained from other sources, or they are far too specialized in a specific playstyle or weapon type in 7 Days to Die.
C-Tier Armor in 7 Days to Die

- Lumberjack
- Nomad
- Ranger
Most, if not all of the individual and set bonuses from these C-tier armor types can be replicated from different sources that are sometimes stronger than the buffs provided by these armor types. This includes things such as perks, magazines, and consumables like healing items and food in 7 Days to Die. Considering how some of the other new armor sets in 7 Days to Die provide buffs that are exclusive to the armor, these four armor sets can be a costly investment that arguably doesn’t pay off.
D-Tier in 7 Days to Die
- Primitive Armor
Primitive armor is the first armor set that players will have access to immediately upon starting a new playthrough in 7 Days to Die, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that it’s one of the weakest armor sets in terms of its damage resistance, though it's still better than nothing. Also, the primitive armor has no individual or set bonuses, so players should consider replacing it with a better armor set ASAP.
