Sheriff: Driver hits police cruiser during chase in U-Haul full of stolen Target items

HOPEFULLY POLICE CAN GET TO HIM SAFELY. ALSO TONIGHT, A SUSPECT WHO POLICE SAY TOOK A U-HAUL TRUCK ON A WILD RIDE IN A MULTI STATE POLICE CHASE IS NOW IN POLICE CUSTODY. THIS WAS SOMETHING ELSE THAT IT ALL STARTED AT A TARGET STORE IN ANDERSON TOWNSHIP, ENDING WITH A CRASH IN OTR. WLWT NEWS FIVE’S CHRIS JACOBS FIRST ON THE SCENE WHEN THIS STORY BROKE LATE THIS AFTERNOON. LIVE WHERE IT ALL CAME TO AN END. HI THERE CHRIS. YEAH, MIKE. WELL, THE ONLY THING THAT’S LEFT WHEN THIS POLICE CHASE ENDED FROM WHERE IT ENDED IS THE DAMAGE ON THIS TREE WHERE THIS ENTIRE THING CAME TO AN END. YOU CAN SEE THE IMPACT HERE. SOME OF THE BARK ALL SCRAPED OFF WHERE THAT U-HAUL TRUCK HIT. BUT AS WE FOUND OUT, THIS WAS THE END OF A LONG PURSUIT THAT STARTED OUT AS A ROBBERY ALL THE WAY OVER IN ANDERSON TOWNSHIP. OKAY, DID YOU SAY HE STRUCK A CRUISER? YEAH, HE STRUCK A 913 CRUISER. A POLICE PURSUIT SPANNING MULTIPLE COUNTIES AND STATES. IT STARTED IN ANDERSON TOWNSHIP AT THE TARGET STORE ON BEECHMONT AVENUE. HAMILTON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES SAY A MAN WENT INSIDE THE STORE, LOADED UP A CART FULL OF ITEMS, THEN HEADED FOR THE EXIT WITHOUT PAYING. ITS SUPPOSEDLY FULL OF STOLEN MERCHANDISE FROM THE TARGET. OUT.IN ANDERSON. DEPUTIES SAY THE SUSPECT LOADED UP THE U-HAUL TRUCK, EVEN HITTING A DEPUTY’S CRUISER IN THE PARKING LOT ON THE WAY OUT. THAT LED TO THE 17 MILE CHASE. THE DRIVER GETTING ON TO 275 TOWARD KENTUCKY. HE CROSSED THE RIVER, THEN HEADED NORTH ON 471, PASSING FORT THOMAS AND NEWPORT, AND FROM THERE THE SUSPECT GOT OFF AT THE LIBERTY EXIT, MAKING HIS WAY INTO OTR. THEY HAVE U-HAUL STOPPED IN ONE SUBJECT OUT OF THE VEHICLE, STATING NEAR EAST 14TH AND BROADWAY CINCY I JUST HEARD THE SKIDDING OF THE CAR AND LOOKED OUT AND SAW THE U-HAUL TRUCK HIT THE NEIGHBOR’S CAR AND THEN RUN INTO A TREE. A MOTHER AND DAUGHTER, ANGELIA AND ELLA BRANDT, SAW THE FINAL MOMENTS OF THE CHASE. HE DID A LOT OF DAMAGE TO THE SUSPECT, EVEN GETTING OUT OF THE U-HAUL AFTER THE CRASH AND TRYING TO RUN AWAY BEFORE A DEPUTY TACKLED HIM A FEW HUNDRED FEET AWAY. THESE WITNESSES, SEEING THIS ALL UNFOLD, I DIDN’T KNOW IF THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE PERSON AND HE HAD HIS GUN OUT, AND I KNOW I DIDN’T WANT HER GETTING SHOT THROUGH THE WINDOW IN THE CROSSFIRE. SO I MADE HER DUCKED BEHIND A FIREPLACE WALL. AND WE DID SPEAK WITH ONE PERSON WALKING BY. THEY CALL THIS A MIRACLE THAT NO PEDESTRIANS ARE HIT BECAUSE IN TERMS OF FOOT TRAFFIC, THIS AREA IS VERY BUSY. THERE’S A DOG PARK RIGHT HERE. ZIEGLER PARK IS RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET. SO THEY SAY EVERYBODY IS VERY LUCKY THAT NO PEDESTRIANS WERE INJURED IN THIS. NOW, AS FOR THE SUSPECT, HE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. HE’S BEEN HE HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO CUSTODY RATHER. BUT HE IS BEING TREATED AT UC MEDICAL CENTER RIGHT NOW. AND POLICE ARE SAYING THERE IS NO WORD ON ANY CHARGES JUST YET. BUT WE WILL KEEP YOU UPDATED ON ANY UPDATES
