The 11 best spots for fish and chips in Ketchikan (2024)

The Alaska Fish House is a local favorite in Ketchikan for fresh seafood, overlooking the harbor where most of the delicious catches come into port.

Cute little place with a view! Stopped here to eat during my cruise. It was an easy 10 minute walk from the pier. I got the 1/2 lb Dungeness crab and 2 pieces of halibut fish and chips. The crab was the best I've ever had and the fish look small but they were DENSE. I'm definitely coming back here on my next trip to Alaska!

Good place to eat. The crab was reasonably priced. If you like salmon, the chowder was worth getting. The sample plate of the deep fried local catch is over priced. I’d probably skip that next time. The drinks were good. The best Bloody Mary down town.

This place was so good!! The fish is fresh and perfectly cooked. We got the AK sampler and the grilled AK tacos with a bowl of the smoked salmon chowder. The chowder was the best I've ever had!! The fish is perfectly cooked and crispy. Fries well seasoned. Coleslaw is vinegar based with onion and cilantro and went perfectly with the tacos. Saw others who ordered the crab and it looked amazing as well!! There is a bar as well on site.

Love this place, some of the best fish in Alaska. A nice change from the cruise ship fare. Quaint fish & chips shop featuring salmon, cod and halibut. Generous portions fried perfectly at a reasonable price. Dining room has bench seating at shared tables overlooking the harbor. Not the Ritz but somehow it all works. Fun experience.

Very busy but absolutely worth it!My party of 4 waited in line for a bit then struggled to find a table. Thankfully, a nice couple saw us looking and had just finished their meal so they hopped up. Surprisingly, we didn't wait long for our food to arrive. The salmon chowder is 10/10. So creamy and delicious! I could have gotten full off of several rounds of that. :) I also had some crab legs. I'm new to eating crab so can't say much but I enjoyed them.My husband order the halibut fish and chips. Their coleslaw is plain veggies so it was disappointing and left untouched but the fish was perfectly fried! We were very pleased with the quality. It wasn't greasy and had such a great flavor. We all left full and happy.Prepare to spend a lot of money as it isn't cheap and be patient. They are a busy spot!

Fish Tacos are BOMB. I got one of each - halibut and salmon. Tacos do not fall apart, and the garnish on top is on point. The fish was juicy and fresh. The fries were very good, nice and crunchy outside and juicy inside, went great with accompanying sauces! Also got smoked salmon chowder, which was very hearty. Perfectly seasoned, didn't need anything! And of course the service, the folks there are super friendly and helpful! Had great conversations and great service!Definitely will visit again when I'm in Ketchikan!

Cool place to get a taste of local fish. The plates are designed to give you a variety and samples. Like a taco plate with samples of different types of fish. Also AK sampler which gives you one play of each type of fish. I was hoping to try the chowder but they were out little disappointed. They also have a bar, separately from the food a little strange but it has a selection of local brews. A good place to stop during a port stop if you're on a cruise.

The Alaska Fish House was a good meal with locally sourced seafood giving a full Alaska experience. The lines were long during our visit to the Ketchikan port while on a cruise but the line continuously moved so it seems the system they have works to get people through. The food itself was very good, we ordered crab and the sampler of three fish. Everything was good and hot. The salmon wasn't overpowering and the breading on all the fish seemed to complement the various fish varieties well. The crab was very good and meaty so that is recommended as well. The restaurant can seem very small during lunch time so you may find yourself sitting with other people at your table. It's not too bad, but if you have personal space issues this may be off putting. We found everyone to be nice so it wasn't an issue for us.

Absolutely amazing food! I don’t eat fish myself, but I was still able to get a burger that was probably the best I’ve ever had in my life. HOWEVER, my parents both love fish. They had the salmon fish and chips, the soup, and the AK sampler tacos. They gave glowing reviews of the freshness, seasoning, and overall taste, stating that it was the best fish they had eaten throughout all of our trip. The staff was super friendly and cleared tables off very quickly. Something of note is that you order at the register and then take a table marker to any seat, where your food is then brought out to you. Overall amazing!

If you’re looking for some great food and place to hang out after departing the cruise ship this is a great stop. The three piece halibut plate, halibut and salmon tacos and salmon chowder are all delicious. When we were here for dinner they had a band playing. Band was great and entertaining. The prices are reasonable for the area and the fact it’s a tourist hot spot. You can sit outside and enjoy the cool air and people watch.

Best restaurant in Alaska. Hands down the best fish and chips we ever had. The fish was crispy on the outside yet juicy and tender on the inside. The french fries were cooked and seasoned to perfection with their own unique spice blend. So good, will definitely make sure to return when we come back to Alaska!

We came in on a cruise and a bus driver told us this is the best place. I completely agree. The food was insane good. We got the AK Sampler platter, Half Pound Crab Legs and a Cup of Chowder. So tasty and delicious. The staff is super helpful and friendly. Everyone should go here if they want good seafood.

Absolutely AMAZING place for fresh seafood! We had the fish and chips - cod and salmon, the salmon bowl, and the full pound of dungeness crab. DELICIOUS! Highly recommend! Food was served quickly. Very busy, especially with cruise ships on dock. Definitely worth the wait to eat! Staff very friendly, place was very clean! Bar has some options ... Denali single engine red was great! There's a deck to hang out with your beer out back.

The three of us ordered a bunch of stuff to share, including the AK Sampler Fish & Chips, Halibut Tacos, Dungeons Crab, and Salmon Chowder. Everything was fantastic, and the Salmon tasted much less fishy than what I'm used to in the lower 48. The Chowder was nice and warm for a cold day, and the only thing I'd change about the tacos would be to put them on a flour tortilla instead of a hard shell. The staff was kind and gave us great recommendations. Highly suggest you check it out while visiting Ketchikan. Oh, and the fries were seasoned perfectly.

Our tour guide recommended this place—it was good!! You order your food first and pay, then proceed to the dining area inside to find a table. There’s a bar inside as well. It’s a fairly small place. The Fish and Chips were delicious! We tried the AK Sampler which gives you one piece of each fish: Cod, Salmon and Halibut—we all thought the Halibut was the best! The French Fries were okay, and the Smoked Salmon Chowder was really good. Also got the Dungeness Crab which was delicious. They offer pitchers of beer so we also got their IPA draft beer.

Great fish and chips sampler and we added the 1/2 lb. dungeons crab. All cooked to perfection. Nice eat in location, friendly people and great service. Will be back again!

Definitely get the grilled salmon rice bowl. Perfect combo of flavors and size with excellent value. You get a nice piece of salmon seasoned perfectly with teriyaki sauce, sesame, and seaweed on top of rice and mixed vegetables. We also got salmon chowder and green salad. But for the same price, you get much more with the rice bowl. All 3 for about $40 with tips. You order first then grab any seat inside. The views are spectacular. You can also hang out on the balcony with your drinks to view the pier and waterfront.

You have to order your food from the counter than go find a seat. It’s a packed house at 5:00.We got the cod fish n chips and the halibut fish n chips. Highly recommend! This food didn’t disappoint! It tastes so fresh! The batter on the fish is crunchy and yummy. The fries are right up there with some of the best I’ve ever had!Prices comparable with everywhere else in this town but the food is worth every penny!

Worthwhile stop if you’re in the area. Went for taco sampler (1 salmon 1 halibut). Clean place with good service and warm bright seating area. Simple menu. Food seemed extremely fresh. Lots of pico and vinegar in the tacos and slaw, just right for the tacos and a little spicy for the slaw. Halibut was a bit dry and salmon leaner than the usual farmed kind but fresh and hot, with a surprisingly good mild seasoning. Beneath all the veggies in the pictures is a good solid layer of fish, so don’t worry about portion. Slaw was packed tightly and very generous, cool and fresh but got spicy quickly near the bottom. The pricing is tourist area pricing, so you’re not getting away from that. Overall a good stop in town.

Got 1/2 pound of crab legs for $26 to go as there wasn't any seating. When I opened the bag it was pathetic how little crab came. While the crab tasted great, there are other places that give good crab at a better cost for much more food. Please note the picture enlarged the size.

The best place to get a Butt (Halibutt) Sandwiches. A must visit attraction while you're in Kitchikan, Alaska. Located at the local harbor and serving the best sea food in a great atmosphere. You'll not going to be disappointed.

The honest truth …Be prepared for long lines at peak times and possibly not having a seat. If there is one complaint, it’s not enough seating area to accommodate the long lines. When it rains / drizzles everyone wants to eat inside. There has to be a better ordering to seating process. We almost received our chowder with not having a table. Now who wants to eat a chowder standing up or cold??? And if we received the Dungeness crab without a table I would have requested it sent back to the kitchen! We did arrive with the cruise ship so lots of people in town. And when the show next door ends, lots of people want to try Alaska Fish House.Food: delicious. Dungeness crab was fresh and succulent. Pairs perfectly with the butter. We also ordered the trio fish a chips. Cod was the favorite, then salmon and halibut last (a little drier than others I have had) also tried the smoked salmon chowder which was good.Again food was great, service was friendly but seating is a problem!

I will start off by saying this place is expensive. I can’t say it’s overpriced because I was so happy with our meal. They have a great system and a small menu which makes for quick service. The salmon chowder was incredible! We got the sampler fish and chips and they were perfect, I am obsessed with the tartar sauce they make. Lastly, the crab was incredible! They had perfect texture. Soooo good! Again, pricey, but I’m so happy we came and hope to one day return.

My husband got the blackened halibut rice bowl and I got the blackened halibut tacos and they were amazing! The fish was so fresh and the flavors were perfect. This is a must visit spot!

We used them for a halibut fishing trip, outstanding Raven was our captain and she was amazing. We caught our limit in 30 min so we were able to fish for COD and some king salmon - great trip and well worth it.

We waited an hour in line as this establishment came highly recommended by locals. Maybe it's what we ordered, but the food itself seemed average. It was fresh and had good flavor, but I'm not sure what all the hype was about. Crab was small and mine had barnacles on it. It was my first time trying crab legs, but that was a turn-off for me and I probably wouldn't get them again. I did like the Halibut bowl and would definitely order that again. Overall I have 4 stars for a unique dining experience.

Had dungees and halibut, food was fine, nice clean restaurant etc. Expect to pay high price due to location, I get it. BUT... How about you don't screw us while we eat here? Dungees for $49.99/lb??? This was just 2 weeks ago. And you get them off your back porch? I'm in New Mexico, and I just bought them at Costco last night for $9.99/lb. How can you do this to people and feel good about yourself? Uncalled for, I'll never go back. See receipt below for 1 lb! Vs 2.6lbs at Costco in New Mexico!!

Enjoyed fish tacos with my family. Super fresh and delicious. A little expensive for the size of portions but otherwise wonderful.

In my humble opinion; best chowder and fries in town. Not your traditional clam chowder, more of a seafood chowder and a little dill forward, but well balanced and very tasty. Also, the fries are cooked to perfection and tossed in some sort of addictively good rub/seasoning.They also have open mic night so I found myself visiting the Alaskan Fish House twice in my week long stay in Ketchikan. It was a very sweet, family-friendly event with lots of local talent and again, great food... and drinks too! Also, great location with really nice atmosphere and lots of natural light to take in all those great surroundings and views.

Hands down, my favorite place to eat. I'd eat here more if it weren't so expensive. The locals love it, the tourists love it, you'll love it.I've most recently had the smoked salmon chowder, fish tacos blackened, and the salmon burger. If I had Bill Gates money, I would either come here for every meal, or have it flown down on my jet. It's that good.

Some of the best crab I’ve ever eaten and I highly recommend this 5-star experience. Initially, I was a little thrown off by the huge line of tourists (coming from the cruise ships), but then I realized it had to be for a reason. The food is amazing—served quickly/efficiently. The space is great with outdoor seating available. Amazing spot!

First time in Ketchikan. Wanted to try halibut. We bought fis and chips with 3 pieces of fish. The fillets were very small but delicious. The accompanying chips were among the best, coated with smoky paprika. Generous quantity of aioli and a small coleslaw. We shared it, not realising how small the serve was. Really only sufficient for one person. The shop was very busy so we dined outside. The service was very friendly and we waited about 15 mins for our food. The missing 5th star is only due to price. It was $34.56 incl. tax USD. For us Aussies, that equates to about $53 for fish and chips sufficient for one person. It was delicious though, but definitelypriced for tourists from cruise ships.

Cute spot along the water with fast and friendly service and great prices. Sit inside or outside. Food was delicious, fish fresh and everything hot. Coleslaw was a perfectly dressed vinegar slaw.

Don't let the line scare you, it was the longest line in town so decided to give it a try. Had the fish & chips sampler which was a great lunch but not the "best I've ever had" like you read. The salmon chowder was excellent and a must! It's a fast pace place, place your order & find a seat; can co*ke products, plenty of fries. Worth a visit
