Welcome to For The Win’s 2024 WNBA season Week 6 power rankings, where we like to cause a little bit of chaos because it gets the people going.

Alright, hoops fans. Its that time of week where you either love us or you’re screaming into the abyss about how terrible our rankings are.

Nevertheless, you’re gonna get this list because Week 6 was a wild one, including that ridiculously good Fever-Sky rivalry matchup that had Angel Reese dropping one of the coldest bars we’ve heard in quite some time. Angel has firmly entered her name into the Rookie of the Year conversations, and we are going to talk about it.

Here’s For The Win’s WNBA power rankings for Week 6:

12

Dallas Wings (3-13)

Previous Week’s Ranking:12

The Dallas Wings are so bad. No, really. They’re terrible.

They’ve lost 11 straight games (injuries are not helping), and getting Natasha Howard back this past week didn’t even matter.

Honestly, Satou Sabally deserves MVP consideration at this point because WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING IN DALLAS without her?!

PULL IT TOGETHER, WINGS.

11

Los Angeles Sparks (4-13)

Previous Week’s Ranking:9

The Los Angeles Sparks are also just not a very good team right now.

If you check the chatter online from Sparks fans, Curt Miller’s rotations are driving them up a wall. Granted, the team is without rookie sensation Cameron Brink, but fans are still seemingly pulling their hair out over who should be in the starting lineup to first off the bench.

The good news is that Dearica Hamby is still playing well and was just named to Team USA’s 3×3 Women’s team for Paris.

10

Washington Mystics (4-13)

Previous Week’s Ranking:11

The Mystics have won four of their last five games, and suddenly, things are moving and shaking in D.C. On June 11, they dropped seventeen 3-pointers against Atlanta and haven’t looked back.

They’ve even played games without several starters. No starters? No problem. (Shoutout to Emily Engstler.) I’m thoroughly impressed with how much resolve Washington is playing with.

Gotta hand it to them. They aren’t giving up without a fight.

9

Atlanta Dream (6-9)

Previous Week’s Ranking:6

I’m so sorry, Atlanta Dream fans.

The Dream have the worst offense in the league and have lost seven of its last nine games. Its franchise player, Rhyne Howard, is out indefinitely with an ankle injury. But I’m not sure even a healthy Howard could help the offensive woes right now.

Teams are absolutely COOKING Atlanta in the paint ― despite Tina Charles doing yeoman’s work ― and it feels like there isn’t a single rotation that Tanisha Wright has tried that can help Atlanta.

Starting point guard Jordin Canada finally made her 2024 season debut. (So, perhaps that helps?) But either way, Dream fans might riot if the team doesn’t pull it together quickly.

8

Indiana Fever (7-11)

Previous Week’s Ranking:8

The Fever were cruising right along ― four wins in a row ― until they ran into a brick wall named the Chicago Sky.

Indy’s offense had been something that had fans gravely concerned, but since the Fever started running things through Aliyah Boston and the bigs, things tremendously improved.

However, they let Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky erase a 15-point lead on Sunday, and suddenly, they are right back where they started before the win streak ― frustrated with questionable decisions.

7

Chicago Sky (6-9)

Previous Week’s Ranking:10

This is Angel Reese’s world, and we’re all just living in it.

The Chicago Sky have been really up-and-down lately, but Reese’s motor has lifted them through the madness. If she doesn’t win Rookie of the Month for June, something is seriously wrong.

She’s had EIGHT CONSECUTIVE DOUBLE-DOUBLES this month, a WNBA record for rookies. That streak also includes 25 points and 16 rebounds against the Indiana Fever, where Reese WORKED NaLyssa Smith so much that fans started dropping memes.

Don’t blink. Angel Reese has firmly entered the Rookie of the Year chat.

6

Phoenix Mercury (8-8)

Previous Week’s Ranking:5

The Phoenix Mercury are 4-2 since Brittney Griner returned, thanks to her efforts and a ton of lights-out performances from Kahleah Cooper.

But, at 42 years old, Diana Taurasi is STILL hooping. In all of Phoenix’s wins this season, she’s averaging 16 points while nailing almost three 3-pointers a game. That’s truly impressive stuff, considering my 35-year-old knees could never.

If this is Taurasi’s last ride, she’s going out with quite a bang.

5

Las Vegas Aces (8-6)

Previous Week’s Ranking:7

HOLY CHELSEA GRAY, BATMAN.

Forget anything I said in any previous weeks. Chelsea Gray for president! The Aces took down two of the league’s best teams in Week 6, and they did it with relative ease. Something about having Chelsea back just invigorated the whole squad.

The most impressive win during this two-game winning streak has to be their sheer domination over the Connecticut Sun. A’ja Wilson had Alyssa Thomas in duress, and neither Thomas nor DeWanna Bonner scored over six points. WHEW.

The Aces are Ace-ing all over the place.

4

Seattle Storm (10-6)

Previous Week’s Ranking:4

The Seattle Storm shook up their starting lineup this past week, adding Jordan Horston, who made the all-WNBA Rookie Team in 2023.

The move paid off as Seattle was able to down the Sun in stunning fashion, with all five starters in double figures. What’s even more impressive is that Jordan held DeWanna Bonner to nine points. (DAWG STUFF.)

I would like to see more of Horston in the starting lineup going forward. That could be the key to helping Seattle stack up wins against the league’s best.

3

Connecticut Sun (13-3)

Previous Week’s Ranking:2

The Connecticut Sun had a ROUGH WEEK.

Connecticut lost back-to-back road games during a recent road trip, and in that stretch, they were last in points, assists and free throws per game. YUCK.

The team’s saving grace is still its top-notch defense. DiJonai Carrington continues to lead the way in that department, and without her efforts, we might be having much different conversations about the Sun.

2

New York Liberty (15-3)

Previous Week’s Ranking:1

The New York Liberty had a rather boring week, and that’s a good thing.

They did what they were supposed to do: beat some of the league’s worst teams. They even did it without the services of Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, who’s been out with an injury, and Courtney Vandersloot, who missed time after her mom passed away.

New York probably needed a quiet week because they play Minnesota in the Commissioner’s Cup on Tuesday, and they’ll want as many folks as possible for that undertaking.

1

Minnesota Lynx (13-3)

Previous Week’s Ranking:3

There’s a new sheriff in town: THE MINNESOTA LYNX.

It’s the Minnesota Lynx, and then everybody else. Minnesota is riding high with a six-game winning streak, and a ton of credit goes to head coach Cheryl Reeve. As LaChina Robinson said on Monday during the Commissioner’s Cup’s media availability, people should stop underestimating Reeve’s abilities.

Cheryl has Napheesa Collier and multiple new players in Minnesota playing like champions, and as I’ve said before, Minnesota is not a team anybody should want to see come playoffs.

TURN UP, LYNX.
